                  Call for papers

Image and video storage and retrieval continues to be one of the most exciting and fastest-growing research areas in the field of multimedia technology. However, opportunities for the exchange of ideas between different groups of researchers, and between researchers and potential users of image/video retrieval systems, are still limited. The International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval (CIVR) series of conferences was originally set up to illuminate the state of the art in image and video retrieval between researchers and practitioners throughout the world. This conference aims to provide an international forum for the discussion of challenges in the fields of image and video  retrieval. CIVR2010 is seeking original high quality submissions addressing innovative research in the broad field of image and video retrieval. A unique feature of the conference is the high level of participation from practitioners. Applications papers and presentations suitable for a wide audience are therefore particularly welcome.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
                  •  Content-based indexing, search, and retrieval of images & videos
                  •  Semantic-based indexing, search, and retrieval of images & videos
                  •  Affect-based indexing, search, and retrieval of images & videos

                  Call for Special Session Proposals

CIVR2010 welcomes proposals for special sessions. Each special session consists of about 5 papers. Special session organizers should submit a proposal by Jan. 8, 2010 to the Special Session Co-Chairs Noboru Babaguchi (babaguchi[AT]comm.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp) , Igor V Kozintsev (igor.v.kozintsev[AT]intel.com) and Kiyoharu Aizawa (aizawa[AT]hal.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp). Special sessions in the area of large-scale multimedia retrieval, mobile applications and social media are of particular interest, but topics in other multimedia areas are also very welcome. The proposal should include the following information:

                  •  Tentative title of the proposed special session
                  •  Names and affiliations of the organizers (including brief bio and contact information)
                  •  Session abstract (statement of the significance of topic)
                  •  List of potential contributors (together with tentative paper titles) who agree to submit a paper if the proposal is accepted

Proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness and significance of the topic, as well as the qualifications of the organizers and quality of papers in the proposed session. Notification of acceptance of special session will be sent by Jan. 15, 2010. Special session papers should be submitted through the regular submission system. Special session organizers will be responsible for managing the review of the papers submitted to their proposed special sessions.
